How Long Does it take for Temazepam to kick in?

Temazepam (Restoril) is most often prescribed for sleeping disorders (Sleep Problems). It is long-acting and is used for short periods (7 to 10 days). This classification of drug is also known as a central nervous system (CNS) depressant.

Temazepam generally starts to take effect between 30 to 60 minutes after oral intake. In most people, its sedative effects become clear at the 30-minute mark, but some people may take up to 1 hour to achieve the peak effect of the drug based on a variety of personal considerations. Owing to its fairly rapid onset, it’s commonly prescribed to be taken just before bedtime.

To receive the most benefit, use temazepam about 30 minutes or so before bedtime. Make sure you have a minimum of 7 to 8 hours to sleep, as if you use it without enough time to rest, you will feel drowsy or you may feel “foggy” the next day (referred to as the “hangover effect”).

Temazepam acts within 30 to 60 minutes and is hence a fast-releaser for sleep deprivation. To be most effective, take it right before sleeping on an empty stomach, ensure that a good night’s rest is possible, and use it as directed only. If it’s not giving the effect you want, or if you are experiencing side effects, talk to your doctor right away.

General side effects are drowsiness, dizziness, headache, fatigue, and dry mouth. Some individuals develop impaired coordination, memory loss, or confusion, particularly in the elderly group. Less frequent but more severe side effects are sleepwalking, hallucinations, mood swings, or allergic reactions. Dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal phenomena are observed when used for a long time and abruptly discontinued. You need to take temazepam as prescribed, and if you experience any unusual or prolonged symptoms, contact your doctor.
